Hello again! This is a followup article of my Hind MK IV. Do read that one, it shows major innovations in the military helicopter world..... and one tight *** looking gunship.

The Worlds Most One Sided Fight you may ask?
Ok maybe not most, but for the most part it was brutal for the Afghanis. A Bullet Proof, seemingly invincible machine of death and destruction would mean the demise of an entire village, with no chance of putting up a fight. One million Afghani's lives were lost during this war, many of them civilian. To learn more about the polotics and how the Afghans and Mujahadeen survived, "Charlie Wilson's War" is a great movie.

Sup Newgrounders! I'm "The Cmdrofficer", for no apparent reason. When given time, I'll write novice-intermediate based discussions on random helicopters. Flash Makers, if you want to enhance game or movie Helicopter quality, I can defiantly help you with concepts... that is if I see you have potential!

Well, Onto the Article.

Super Hind MK IV, An Amazing Whirlibird-ical Wonder!
Picture Disclaimer: I couldn't find a Mk IV Picture, so this was the best I could come up with. It's not picture/Photoshop enhanced.

Picture this: An Afghani boy runs through the town crying, "The Soviets are coming! The Soviets are coming!" You realize what this means and run for cover, as you are in running distance of your village. Just thin, thunderous whirring comes within earshot, and as you run, you look and see that a helicopter is rising over a hill. You find a large rock and hide from its view, as the village is too far away. Just then, you watch the panicked people attempt the inevitable run towards the village as an automatic turret begins to gun the villagers down, one by one within seconds. Just then, it releases rockets and destroys several buildings, one of which is your home, within seconds. It then proceeds to drop two 500 lb Fuel Air Bombs and decimates the village. You are the only survivor. If that wasn't enough, the Taliban are over the hill, and use WWI Machine guns to stop the menace. It ricochets off of the hull, (and later when it is in the repair bay, the Russians noticed bullet dents in the rotors as well, but it flew perfectly normal), but it was to no avail. It guns a few down, and then lands. Eight fully armed Soldiers rush out the back. It then proceeds to fly away. It brought utter death and destruction, and armed troops to seek out and destroy the survivors.

Fictional story based on soviet-afghan war, true statistics. This is an Aeronautical Masterpiece-- the Soviet MI-24 Hind.
MI-24 Hind Pros:
-Wheels to take off like conventional aircraft when load is too great.
-Commonly used to drop bombs, could decimate villages and fortified locations
-Amazing offensive capabilities, coupled with troop transport.
-Great for any 3rd world dictator vs. any other 3rd world country or groups.
Cons:
-Soviet tech, Very limited.
-Very heavy, and outdated engine
-Would fare horribly versus richer countries. (As we saw in the Afghani-soviet war, the US introduction of the STINGER caused large casualties and eventually led to the soviet withdrawal.)

Oh noes. The Awesome Hind helicopter has been outdated. Well, never fear, like minded engineers from South Africa are here.

Introducing.......... the SuperHind Series! It is the modernization of the Mi-24 hind, because there was an incredible concept and design, but not enough tech. to back it up.

Well, there IS a more technological/practical SuperHind Mk V out there, but the Mk IV (pictured below) looks sooo much cooler.

What is the SuperHind Mk IV?
It is the fourth of the SuperHind series, improved by a South African company.

What does it sport(weapons)?
Straight from the website.

CANNON
Turret mounted 20 mm dual feed cannon turret
- "Look shoot" quick reaction mode
- Accurate sight aimed mode for long range attack
- Range 100-2000m

GUIDED MISSILES 8 x INGWE
Missiles on stub wing outboard stations

It is totally ready for modern warfare based off of the weapons described above.

What are its overall improvements?

The basics, believe it or not, are somewhat unchanged from the awesome original.
Its major improvements are:
NIGHT CAPABILITY

NVG capable featuring
- Cockpit lighting modifications
- Cabin lighting modifications
- External formation and navigation lighting modifications
- IR/white landing lights

AVIONICS FIT

- 3 Screen glass cockpit per crew station
- 1 x Primary Flight Display
- 1 x Multi Function Display (MFD)
-1 x Mission display for weapons and digital map applications
- Digital map with Doppler/GPS hybrid navigation
- Customer defined communications suite
- Customer defined electronic warfare suite
- Mission specific systems

- Voice and data recorder

So it can perform better in a modern situation, opposed to the old version, basically.

MAIN SIGHT nose mounted

- Missile guidance and provision for laser designation

- HELMET SIGHTING
Helmet mounted sight for cannon and sight cueing applications in each crew station

The Head-up Display provides the pilot with aiming as well as flight information. This fully night capable system allows the utilization of ballistic weapons Rockets,
Cannon, and Pods) by the pilot at night

The whole combat system is improved.
